Registration for EFCC Certificate (SCUML)

The Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML) is a government agency established under the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011. The agency is responsible for monitoring, supervising, and regulating the activities of Designated Non-Financial Institutions (DNFIs).

The SCUML certificate is issued by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). It serves as proof that an organisation’s bank account is not being used for money laundering activities. In addition, it confirms that the organisation is operating legitimately.

Furthermore, any organisation classified as a DNFI that fails to register with SCUML may not be allowed to operate a bank account with any financial institution in Nigeria.

How to Register for a SCUML Certificate

To register for a SCUML certificate in Nigeria, kindly visit the official SCUML website at SCUML Official Website. Next, click on the “Register Online” tab and complete the registration form.

After filling out the form, attach the required documents in PDF format and upload them accordingly.

LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANIES

• Certificate of Incorporation
• Memorandum and Articles of Association (MEMART)
• Form CAC 2 and CAC 7
• Evidence of Tax Registration

BUSINESS NAMES

• Certificate of Registration
• Form BN-01 (Proprietor’s Particulars)
• Evidence of Tax Registration

PROFESSIONAL FIRMS

Professional firms such as law firms, accounting firms, and audit firms must also provide their professional certificates.

NGOs/NPOs

• Certificate of Incorporation or Registration
• Incorporation of Trustees or CAC 7
• Constitution or Memorandum and Articles of Association

STATE REGISTRATIONS

• Certificate of Registration from the State
• Constitution
• Valid means of identification for at least three executive members

INTERNATIONAL NGOs/NPOs

• Evidence of Registration with the National Planning Commission (NPC)
• Constitution
• Organisational Profile

Steps to Obtain a SCUML Certificate

1. Visit the registration portal at SCUML Registration Portal.
2. Complete the SCUML registration form with accurate business details. These details include the company name, registration number, and names of beneficial owners.
3. Upload the required documents, such as company registration documents and Tax Identification Number (TIN) certificate.
4. Submit the application for review.
5. Once your application is approved, SCUML will issue your certificate of registration.

After Approval

After successful approval, DNFIs are required to attend a sensitization session. In addition, the original copy of the CAC Certificate must be sighted before the SCUML certificate is released.

Finally, any director of the company may collect the certificate on behalf of the organisation.
