Nigeria’s Tax Administration Goes Digital
Nigeria’s tax administration entered a new era on 30 April 2026 with the official launch of Rev360, the next-generation platform introduced by Nigeria Revenue Service. The launch ends the TaxPro Max era and introduces what the NRS now calls Tax Administration 3.0. The platform aims to create a fully integrated, intelligent, and taxpayer-focused system that changes how individuals, businesses, and tax professionals interact with tax authorities in Nigeria.
This transition is more than a technical upgrade. It reflects a major shift in the philosophy of tax administration in Nigeria. The old system relied heavily on physical visits, manual submissions, and direct interaction with tax officers. Rev360 replaces that model with a streamlined digital experience that places taxpayers at the center of the process.
From TaxPro Max to Rev360
TaxPro Max marked Nigeria’s first serious move toward electronic tax filing. It allowed taxpayers to file returns and make payments without visiting tax offices. That change improved a system that previously depended almost entirely on paper processes.
Despite those improvements, TaxPro Max faced several challenges. Users regularly experienced technical failures and slow processing times. The platform required extensive manual input and provided limited visibility into compliance history and outstanding liabilities.
The introduction of the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 and the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025 increased reporting obligations and strengthened enforcement measures from 1 January 2026. These reforms exposed the weaknesses of TaxPro Max more clearly. The NRS developed Rev360 to address those shortcomings and support the new tax framework.
What Rev360 Does
Rev360 is a fully integrated digital platform available through the NRS self-service portal. The platform combines federal tax obligations such as Company Income Tax (CIT), Value Added Tax (VAT), Withholding Tax (WHT), and other taxes into a single system.
Through the NRS Single Sign-On (SSO), taxpayers can access a centralized dashboard that displays their tax profile, compliance history, outstanding liabilities, and credit balances.
One of Rev360’s key features is its integration with the databases of the Corporate Affairs Commission and the National Identity Management Commission. When a company registers, the platform automatically retrieves and verifies its information from the CAC database in real time. This process reduces manual entry and minimizes registration errors.
For individual taxpayers, the system automatically generates Tax IDs and links them to NIMC records. This process helps the NRS maintain accurate taxpayer identification across the system.
Rev360 also introduces near real-time reporting. Unlike TaxPro Max, which relied on periodic uploads, the new platform processes compliance data much closer to the date of each transaction. This feature gives the NRS earlier visibility into taxpayer activity and helps taxpayers identify issues before filing deadlines.
The Self-Service Revolution
Rev360’s self-service structure may become its most transformative feature. Under TaxPro Max, taxpayers often depended on tax officers for assessments, corrections, and Tax Clearance Certificates. That dependence created delays, bottlenecks, and opportunities for discretionary conduct.
Rev360 removes much of that dependence. Taxpayers can now log into the portal to:
- View outstanding liabilities
- File CIT, VAT, and WHT returns
- Make payments through online gateways
- Apply WHT credits against liabilities
- Request Tax Clearance Certificates
The platform processes these activities without requiring visits to tax offices. It also generates digital receipts automatically and updates compliance records in real time.
Businesses that work with tax consultants can formally link their accounts to registered consultants through the consultant’s Tax ID. Once linked, consultants can file returns on behalf of clients without presenting physical authorization documents.
The platform also supports digital dispute resolution. Taxpayers can submit objections to assessments and upload supporting documents online. The system delivers audit notifications and desk review notices directly through the portal instead of relying on informal communication channels.
Migration: What Existing Taxpayers Need to Know
Many taxpayers initially worried about the fate of their historical records on TaxPro Max. These records include filings, payment histories, WHT credit notes, and compliance data.
The NRS confirmed that it has already migrated all existing taxpayer data to Rev360. Taxpayers who previously registered on TaxPro Max do not need to register again.
Migrated users will receive new login credentials through their registered email addresses. These credentials include a username and temporary password. After the first login, the platform immediately prompts users to create a new password.
Old TaxPro Max login credentials will not work on Rev360.
The migration includes:
- Taxpayer profiles
- Historical filings
- Payment records
- WHT credit notes
- Outstanding balances
This migration is particularly important for businesses with unresolved WHT credits from prior years. Rev360 now allows taxpayers to apply those credits directly against current liabilities without presenting physical credit notes.
Taxpayers should immediately confirm that their registered email addresses remain active and accessible. Rev360 sends login credentials, one-time passwords, audit notices, and official communications through email. An outdated email address could prevent access to the platform.
The NRS also advised taxpayers to confirm that their CAC records contain the correct email address because the platform cross-checks both databases during verification.
For new companies, registration is fully digital. A company enters its RC Number, and the system retrieves relevant information directly from the CAC database. The platform then sends an OTP to the company’s registered email address for verification. After verification, the company completes its tax profile, including business sector, accounting year-end, and tax office selection.
Most companies will not need to visit a tax office during registration.
The Revenue Ambition Behind Rev360
The launch of Rev360 forms part of the NRS’s broader revenue strategy. The Service has set a revenue target of N40.711 trillion for 2026. This target represents a 44 percent increase over the N28.289 trillion collected in 2025.
The growth trend remains significant. In 2021, total NRS collections stood at N6.4 trillion. Increased enforcement, broader compliance, and structural tax reforms have driven this growth over the last five years.
The Executive Chairman of the NRS, Zacch Adedeji, announced the 2026 target before the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations. He explained that the figure includes taxes, royalties, and other revenues now consolidated under the NRS after the transfer of petroleum and mineral royalty collections from other agencies.
Non-oil revenue is expected to drive most of the projected growth, with collections expected to increase by about 37.9 percent to N24.836 trillion.
Rev360 plays a central role in achieving this target. The platform digitizes filing and payment processes from start to finish. This structure reduces tax leakages and strengthens the NRS’s ability to monitor compliance in real time.
Its e-invoicing feature also increases transparency for medium-sized and emerging businesses. The system makes it harder for taxpayers to under-report income or inflate deductible expenses.
What Rev360 Means for Taxpayers and Practitioners
Rev360 significantly improves the compliance experience for both individuals and businesses. Taxpayers can now manage liabilities, file returns, make payments, and monitor compliance from a single dashboard. This convenience reduces the administrative burden that often makes tax compliance expensive and time-consuming.
At the same time, the platform increases accountability.
Rev360 compares figures in uploaded Excel filing templates with audited financial statements. Any inconsistency may trigger a desk review by the NRS. Businesses must therefore ensure that their tax filings align closely with their financial records.
The withholding tax module also introduces stricter requirements. Every WHT filing must include the Tax ID of each beneficiary. If a taxpayer fails to provide a beneficiary’s Tax ID, the system automatically applies a 20 percent WHT rate instead of the standard rate.
Since standard WHT rates usually range between 5 and 10 percent, poor record-keeping could create serious financial consequences.
Rev360 also changes the structure of professional tax practice in Nigeria. Consultants must register as authorized practitioners before they can file on behalf of clients. This requirement formalizes the consultant-client relationship and limits the role of informal tax agents operating outside recognized professional structures.
Conclusion
Rev360 represents an important and overdue advancement in Nigeria’s tax administration system. The platform addresses long-standing problems such as manual inefficiency, limited transparency, physical bottlenecks, and inconsistent enforcement.
If the NRS implements and maintains the platform effectively, Rev360 could strengthen taxpayer confidence and support sustainable revenue growth.
Taxpayers and advisers should now focus on a smooth transition. They should verify their registered email addresses, download important historical records from TaxPro Max where necessary, log into Rev360 promptly after receiving migration credentials, and review their compliance processes under the new system.
